“The little boy from Rosario, Argentina on behalf of every little boy wearing his shirt. Messi on a million backs, Messi for a million flashbulbs. One kick of the ball, one kick of the football. He has done it before. He had done it before many times at the Nou Camp. Around Spain. Around Europe. He has done it brilliantly for his Nation, especially in this competition. He must do it now. Messi must….” -Peter Durry
…And Messi did it.
Argentina played the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 Finals against France on 18 December 2022. The match went like a rollercoaster of emotions. The fans were crying, laughing, celebrating and enjoying the most intense World Cup Final ever witnessed.
The match started with flashbacks of 2018; the time when France beat Argentina to 4-3. But this Argentina was different and they proved this. France conceded a penalty and Lionel Messi scored the opening goal of the match. The stadium roared chanting and celebrating. A goal to remember, it surely was.
Few minutes later, Messi came forward with the ball and gave a beautiful assist to Angel Di Maria. What a sensational goal it was! A beautiful assist that was completed by Di Maria. Half time ended with a satisfactory score of 2-0.
The second half started with a shocking comeback from France. Kylian Mbappe scored two back- to- back goals during the last ten minutes. The equalizer sent everyone off. The match got intense when extra time got added.
Breath at stake
Hands on heads
Prayers mumbling
Hands shaking
No fandom has ever been this scared.
The last minutes of extra time kept ticking away. The unexpected happened… He stepped up. Lionel Messi did it. He showed his magic on the field and scored the third goal in the 108th minute. Fans cried happy tears as they were minutes away from winning the trophy. But ofcourse, France wasn’t going to step down this easily; or should I say Kylian Mbappe wasn’t going to step down this easy? France was basically one man army this time of the World Cup. Argentina conceded a penalty and Mbappe equalized the score with his goal (3-3).
The match went forward and landed on both the teams taking penalties. Five penalties. Their pride, their hardwork, the World Cup trophy was going to be handed to the team who scored those penalties.
The atmosphere was tensed but then Montiel scored the fourth penalty and Argentina rejoiced.
They had been waiting, practicing for years patiently. Argentina won the FIFA World Cup after 36 years.
A moment which brought tears to Buenos Aries and almost half of the World. Fans all around the globe enjoyed the G.O.A.T’s win for his country.
A moment memorable and a win which can’t be defeated. Argentina has finally done it. Messi has finally done it.
And with that the 2022 season comes to an end..
